How to Get Branded Boxes In China

How people perceive your product often holds as much weight as the product itself. That's precisely why brands invest in stunning boxes.

The first step is to decide what the box needs to fit inside.

  • Is it one product?

  • Is it multiple products?

  • Is it products with varying quantities?

If you've got products of different quantities, here's the trick. Avoid making a box for multiples of a large item. Why? Well, if a customer orders just one, that lone item might bounce around during transit. Not the best scenario for its safe arrival to the customer!

However, if you've got a main product along with smaller ones, a slightly larger box might be the magic solution. Even if the customer orders only the main product, a bit of extra padding secures everything nicely.

Remember, the right fit ensures your products travel safely and arrive in tip-top shape. It's all about that perfect balance for a worry-free unboxing experience!

Will it be a thinner box that goes inside another shipping box like the ones cosmetic brands use?

Types of Boxes

Thin Box - When it comes to shipping from China to anywhere in the world, thin boxes simply don't have what it takes to withstand the adventure, even with a trusty poly bag as backup. Thus, in such cases you'll need to buy a corrugated box to protect that thinner box.

Thick Box - If you opt for a sturdy, thicker box that doubles as both the branded packaging and the protective shield, you won't need to purchase two separate boxes.

Sometimes, you have the opportunity to trim shipping costs by opting for a bag instead of a box. This is particularly ideal for those resilient, lightweight products that can handle the journey without a worry.

Do you have any samples of the kind of box you want or are you looking for some sort of design inspiration?

The next step is to send the products that need to fit in the box to the box manufacturer with samples of boxes that you would like to take artistic inspiration from.

“Some people know exactly what they want while some people don't and that is totally fine.”

The manufacturer that we work with is great!

  • If we send them a Physical Box to copy, they can replicate and even improve it.

  • If we give them a Photo Sample, they can use the products we've sent and combine it with what they see in the photos to design a great box.

  • If you’re looking for ideas, then they can give you suggestions based on the actual products sent to them.

A dieline is the art file that shows where cuts, perforations and folds need to be made

The final step is for the manufacturer to create a basic sample of what the box looks like without any branding or colors.

Once we're delighted with the progress and geared up for the next phase, the manufacturers offer a design file known as a Dieline. This fantastic blueprint showcases the box layout, allowing you to:

  • Splash on vibrant colors

  • Infuse your brand's identity

  • Incorporate any essential information needed to make it pop!

It's the moment to get creative and add your unique touch, transforming the Dieline into a vibrant canvas for your brand's identity! The revised dieline will be sent back to the manufacturer so they can create a final sample box with branding for us to review.

Any comments after final review will be incorporated prior to production. The production usually takes between 4 to 7 days.

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ's)

When it comes to Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs), aiming for approximately 500 units can get your branded boxes rolling. Don't let this number deter you, though, because many of these boxes come at incredibly affordable prices. In fact, the smaller ones can cost as little as ¥0.5 in Chinese currency.

Design and Size Matter

As the box size expands, the design and complexity follows suit which in turn raises the production costs. Bigger boxes mean more room for creativity but also a little extra investment for that intricate design magic!

Third Party Agent

If you're working with the supplier directly, process can take longer if you expect each sample to be sent to wherever you are in the world. However, if you have a trusted agent or an intermediary, they will take the reins on quality checks, and samples can zoom straight to their warehouse, saving you precious time and hassle!

Hopefully, this gives you practical insight into the process of getting boxes done in China, even without prior box-design experience. Whether you're working with a familiar or new partner, sticking to the outlined process is your golden ticket. Keep communication open and ensure they send you videos and photos of samples and updates. With this approach, you're on track to smooth sailing and beautifully crafted boxes on the horizon!
